Data, Dignity,
and Direction
Building the first comprehensive global evidence base on orphanhood and lack of parental care among children aged 0–17 in low- and middle-income countries.
01 — Background and Aim
Millions of children grow up without parental care, yet remain largely overlooked in research and policy.
Children worldwide grow up without parental care due to loss, poverty, conflict, or displacement, facing greater risks to their health, education, and well-being. This project will generate the first comprehensive global evidence on children aged 0 to 17 who are orphans or lack parental care across 75+ low and middle income countries. Combining large-scale data analysis with in-country research and lived perspectives, it will address critical evidence gaps and inform policies, services, and action.
